Call for Chapters

Proposals Submission Deadline: January 30, 2013
Full Chapters Due: March 30, 2013
Submission Date: July 30, 2013

Introduction

Game Theory is the formal study of conflict and cooperation. Game Theory concepts apply whenever the actions of several agents are interdependent. These agents may be individuals, groups, firms, or any combination of these. The concepts of Game Theory provide a language to formulate, structure, analyze, and understand strategic scenarios. Game Theory is an extremely useful tool which has enabled economists to venture into unknown areas. In particular, Game Theory has provided a powerful way of thinking about institutions, laws, contracts, and corporate governance. As a result, Game Theory has a very deep impact on developmental economics because it provides a way of formalizing institutions. This is particularly important for emerging economies such as CIVETS (Colombia, Indonesia, Vietnam, Egypt, Turkey, and South Africa), an area which has not yet received much attention in the academic world.
Objective of the Book

The primary objective of the proposed publication is that of Reference material for scholars and business executives who need to understand the importance and influence of game theory and technology on 21st century developing economies. The secondary objective is to provide a foundation for other similar books on the subject. The book should be published because there are no reference / resource materials available on the role of game theory in developmental economics, especially those which include some of the major topics of the proposed book such as education, the influence of religion, public spheres, entrepreneurship, strategic behavior and market structure in developing nations, and technology adoption specifically in emerging economies such as CIVETS (see above).
Target Audience

The primary intended audience is scholars who have the need for qualified Reference material regarding the subject matter of the proposed publication as outlined above. While having academic rigor, the book will be written in a way such that it can also be understood by non-academics and non-specialists who have the educational background to comprehend the importance of the proposed publication.
Recommended Topics (include, but are not limited to, the following):

•Poverty and Prosperity in Developing Nations
•Game Theory in Economic Development
•Technology Adoption in Emerging Economies
•Entrepreneurship and International Trade in Economic Development
•Natural Resources and Sustainability
•Privatization and Regulation
•Property Rights, Governance, and Corruption
•The Influence of Religion in Emerging Economies
•Risk Management
•Savings and Credit Arrangements in the Presence of Information Asymmetries
•Social Capital and Public Spheres
•Conflict and Violence
•Business Ethics
•Strategic Behavior and Market Structure in Developing Nations
•Labor Relations
•International Political Economy
Submission Procedure

Researchers and practitioners are invited to submit on or before January 30, 2013, a 2-3 page chapter proposal clearly explaining the mission and concerns of her or his proposed chapter. Authors of accepted proposals will be notified by February 15, 2013 about the status of their proposals and sent chapter guidelines. Full chapters are expected to be submitted by March 30, 2013. All submitted chapters will be reviewed on a double-blind review basis. Contributors are expected to serve as reviewers for at least 2 submissions.
Publisher
This book is expected to be published by IGI Global (formerly Idea Group, Inc.), publisher of the “Information Science Reference” (formerly Idea Group Reference), “Medical Information Science Reference,” “Business Science Reference,” and “Engineering Science Reference” imprints. For additional information regarding the publisher, please visit http://www.igi-global.com. This book is anticipated to be published in 2014.

The Athens Institute for Education and Research (ATINER) was established in 1995 as an independent academic association with the mission to become a forum, where academics and researchers – from all over the world – could meet in Athens to exchange ideas on their research and to discuss future developments in their disciplines. Since 1995, ATINER has organized more than 200 international conferences, symposiums and events. It has also published approximately 150 books. Academically, the Institute consists of five Research Divisions and twenty-three Research Units. Each Research Unit organizes an annual conference and undertakes various small and large research projects. Academics and researchers are more than welcome to become members and contribute to ATINER’s objectives. The members of the Institute can undertake a number of academic activities. If you want to become a member, please download the form (membership form). For more information or suggestions, please send an email to: info(at)atiner.gr.
