The new laboratory at Essex is seeking a full-time Laboratory Manager. See below. Full details are available online at:
The Essex Social Science Experimental Laboratory (ESSEXLab) at the University of Essex is seeking to appoint a Laboratory Manager.
ESSEXLab is a major investment by the University: a new, state-of-the-art computerised laboratory for experiments in social science and economics, comprising a 32-workstation partitionable laboratory space with a separate experimenter’s office, and a database of experiment participants from the university and beyond. Essex is the UK’s premier social science university, with top-ranked departments in economics, political science and sociology. There is a small but vibrant cluster of experimentalists across these departments. Seedcorn funding is available for experiments in the Laboratory.
The successful candidate will be responsible for the day-to-day running of the Laboratory’s network and software and will also manage the Laboratory’s administrative web interface. You will assist researchers in running their experiments, recruit potential experiment participants, organise conferences and seminars around the laboratory, and participate in the development of the Laboratory.
You should have a degree in a relevant discipline, be familiar with lab management software such as ORSEE or SONA and have experience of testing and deploying software. Strong technical skills in computer programming and networking together with excellent communication and organisational skills are essential.
This is an exciting chance to take responsibility for running and developing a major computerised project in the academic arena. The post is full-time and fixed-term for two years.
