Luca Lambertini, Università di Bologna, luca.lambertini
Industrial organization has long provided a fertile area for the application of the theory of dynamic games (in both discrete time and continuous time). Many of the basic oligopoly settings enjoy natural formulations as dynamic games, including research and development, strategic pricing over time, advertising, network externalities, consumer switching costs, learning by doing, capacity expansion, firm-level capital accumulation, among others. In recent years, there has been a surge of interest centering in particular on the use of dynamic (stochastic) games in modeling strategic industry dynamics with entry and exit.
In 2014, Dynamic Games and Applications will publish a special issue on the subject, focused in particular (but not exclusively) on the above topics. The scope of this issue is defined rather broadly and will also include applications of dynamic games in closely related fields (such as economics of regulation). In addition, models based on multi-stage games (such as two-stage and three-stage games) will be considered if suitably presented in relation to, or as as building blocks for, full-fledged dynamic games.
The special issue welcomes submissions with primary focus in basic theory, applied/policy-oriented work, empirical research, as well as computational methods. In addition, submissions in both discrete time and continuous time are sought.
Submission Deadline: January 15, 2014
Earlier submission is encouraged, and papers will appear online following acceptance in advance of the production of the full special issue.
