Dr. Chi-fu Huang (黃奇輔博士)

A Relative Value Investment Paradigm-Wholesale Capital Market Intermediation in Fixed Income

Dr. Chi-fu Huang (黃奇輔博士) is the co-author, with R. Litzenberger, of Foundations for Financial Economics, a distinguished textbook for economics and finance graduate students. He is also a founder and the Non-Executive Chairman of Platinum Grove Asset Management L.P. (PGAM), an investment management company based in New York. He was a full professor and held the J.C. Penney Professorship in finance when he left MIT in the summer of 1994.

Dr. Huang has made major contributions to the theory of financial economics, and has written on dynamic general equilibrium theory, intertemporal utility theory, and the theory of individual consumption and portfolio decisions. His research articles have been published in several prestigious journals, such as Econometrica, Journal of Financial Economics, Journal of Financial and Quantitative Analysis and Review of Financial Studies.

Dr. Chi-fu Huang

The “Relative Value Investment" paradigm pioneered by the Bond Arbitrage Group of Salomon Brothers in the 1980’s and further developed by Long-term Capital Management in the 1990’s, Platinum Grove Asset Management and others in the 2000’s will be discussed in some detail in the context of global fixed income markets. Investment opportunities are created by transitory imbalances between supply and demand. Thus this paradigm is tantamount to providing an intermediation service in the market place to smooth out the transitory imbalances and to earn a return in the process. Finally, the role of leverage and principles of risk management will also be discussed.

ESA-announce Call for papers: Research In Experimental Economics, Volume 17

Posted on 2013/08/02. Filed under: 綜合 |

Call for papers: Research In Experimental Economics, Volume 17

Experiments in Macroeconomics

Volume editor: John Duffy, University of Pittsburgh

This edited book is scheduled as volume 17 of the series, Research in Experimental Economics, Emerald Group Publishing and is to appear in 2014. The REE series of edited research volumes was first published in 1979 with founding editor Vernon L. Smith. The current senior editors are R. Mark Isaac and Douglas A. Norton of Florida State University.

About the new volume

Macroeconomic models have traditionally been evaluated using non-experimental field data. However, the assumptions and predictions of many modern micro-founded macroeconomic models can also be tested using the methodology of controlled laboratory or field experimentation which often allows for better causal inference. This volume will be the first to collect papers from researchers using the experimental methodology to address macroeconomic topics and policy issues.

As usual, REE papers will be externally reviewed. Unlike some journals, we welcome papers that are interdisciplinary, that focus on replication and robustness studies or that present extensive data analysis. Different types of papers – laboratory experiments, field experiments, and theoretical papers with implications for experimentation – will be considered. Within this framework, possible topics to address include, but are not limited t

  • Intertemporal consumption and savings decisions.

  • Coordination problems and equilibrium selection

  • Expectation formation and learning

  • Institutions and economic growth.

  • Fiscal or monetary policy issues

  • Topics involving money, credit or banking

  • Labor markets and (un)employment.

Submission procedure

Interested authors are encouraged to contact the volume editor as soon as possible. For full consideration, completed manuscripts must be received by November 1, 2013. Space for inclusion in this volume is limited.

Emails for submissions:
