ESA-announce Job Openings at Virginia Tech
We have two positions we wish to fill this year, an assistant professor in Neuro/Theory/Experimental/Behavioral and a Full Professor/Department Head. Details follow and just came out in JOE. Message me with questions about either position!
The Economics Department, Virginia Tech invites applications for Assistant Professor. Ph.D. in economics or related discipline is required at the time of appointment. Foreign equivalent accepted. Must have published articles on Neuroeconomics, Behavioral Economic Theory or Experimental Economics in well-cited, peer reviewed journals. Candidates who are still in graduate school or have completed their Ph.D. less than a year ago must have at least two working papers that are under review or ready to be submitted for publication and are likely to be published in well-cited, peer reviewed journals. Other requirements include evidence of teaching effectiveness, experience with cross-disciplinary research collaborations, commitment to advise and teach a diverse student body, vision, creativity, and leadership skills.
Responsibilities include: Active participation in the recently introduced interdisciplinary undergraduate program in neuroscience; Active participation in department’s undergraduate and graduate teaching missions; Development and maintenance of an internationally recognized, externally funded, cross-disciplinary research program; Participation in department and university administrative governance and advising functions; Continuing development of scholarly activities and professional capabilities; Adherence to the faculty handbook. Substantial resources are available to support Neuroscience research, including an fMRI scanner on the main campus and two at the Virginia Tech Carilion Research Institute in nearby Roanoke.
Full Professor/Department Head
Virginia Tech seeks an accomplished, visionary head for its department of Economics. Virginia Tech has an emphasis on interdisciplinary research; its faculty have been involved in collaborations across a number of disciplines within the university, nationally and globally. The department is located in the College of Science and consists of 14 faculty, 3 instructors and 25 Ph.D. students. The Ph.D. is offered jointly with the Agricultural and Applied Economics Department (College of Agriculture and Life Sciences). We have approximately 450 undergraduate majors divided between science- and business-based undergraduate programs.
Responsibilities of the Department Head include leadership of all department programs and administrative responsibility for visioning, planning, fiscal management and human resources. This includes facilitating success in obtaining external funding as well as recruitment, development, and retention of faculty and staff. Desired qualifications include:
•Evidence of visionary leadership in supporting and promoting excellence in teaching, research, and extension
•Academic record and internationally recognized level of professional achievement, commensurate with a tenured appointment at the rank of full professor at Virginia Tech
•A record of effective mentoring and management of personnel and financial resources
•Earned doctorate in economics
•Demonstrated ability to work with diverse student populations and colleagues
