Call for Papers

International Conference on the
Policy Implications of Systemic Risk Models and Measures

4–5 June 2015, Amsterdam, The Netherlands

The Amsterdam School of Finance and Risk Management and the Econometrics Group of VU University Amsterdam organize a conference on the edge between systemic risk models and measures and actual policy making. The conference aims to bring together academics, policy makers, and professionals and is part of the SYRTO project (Systemic Risk Tomography), sponsored by the FP7 EU framework.

The motivation for the conference is that much research has been devoted to the modeling of systemic risk. This has led to many valuable qualitative insights. On the other hand, much econometric work has been done as well, leading to a range of different systemic risk measures. A key challenge is to determine how qualitative insights can best be transformed into concrete policy triggers, as well as how alternative systemic risk measures can help to support actual policy making.

We invite papers on the following (and related) topics:
1. Policy implications for systemic risk;
2. New model insights for systemic risk;
3. Novel systemic risk measurement methodologies and their policy use;
4. Empirical comparisons of existing systemic risk measurement methodologies.
The final program will include both submitted and invited papers, as well as a poster session.

Keynote speakers:
Charles Goodhart (London School of Economics, Financial Markets Group)
Simone Manganelli (Head Financial Research, ECB)
José-Luis Peydró (Universitat Pompeu Fabra, ICREA-UPF)

SCIENTIFIC COMMITTEE:
Monica Billio University of Venice
Frank Diebold University of Pennsylvania
Siem Jan Koopman VU University Amsterdam
André Lucas VU University Amsterdam
Marco Pagano University of Naples Federico II, CSEF and EIEF, chair of the Advisory
Scientific Committee of the ESRB
Dirk Schoenmaker VU University Amsterdam and Duisenberg School of Finance

PAPER SUBMISSION PROCEDURE:
Papers should be submitted before March 20, 2015 to syrto.conference()vu.nl. Decisions regarding acceptance will be made by March 31, 2015. The final version of accepted papers must be received by April 30, 2015. Limited sponsoring is available for a selection of accepted papers.

LOCAL ORGANIZERS:
Siem Jan Koopman (s.j.koopman()vu.nl), Andre Lucas (<a href="mailto:a.lucas), Arjen Siegmann (a.siegmann()vu.nl).

SYRTO: This project has received funding from the European Union’s Seventh Framework Programme for research, technological development and demonstration under grant agreement no. 320270.

ESA-announce IMEBESS International Meeting on Experimental and Behavioral Sciences 15 – 17 April 2015

Posted on 2014/12/23. Filed under: 綜合 |

The Nuffield Centre for Experimental Social Sciences of the University of Oxford (CESS) is pleased to announce the Second International Meeting on Experimental and Behavioral Social Sciences (IMEBESS) at the Institute for Advanced Study at Toulouse (linked to Toulouse School of Economics). The conference is locally organised by Astrid Hopfensitz (Toulouse School of Economics) in collaboration with Jordi Brandts (Institut d’Anàlisi Econòmica (CSIC) and Barcelona GSE), Raymond Duch (Nuffield College Oxford University), Enrique Fatás (University of East Anglia) and Diego Gambetta (European University Institute). The Conference dates are 15-17 April, 2015.

IMEBESS has started as a succession of the International Meeting series on Experimental and Behavioral Economics (IMEBE), and had an inaugural meeting at Nuffield College, University of Oxford in April 2014. IMEBESS intends to bring together researchers in all areas of the social sciences who are interested in experimental methods. We believe that behavioural economics is increasingly informed by a very diverse range of research traditions. Hence, we are particularly interested in the participation of all the diverse social science disciplines with an interest in experimental research. The program will consist of a number of invited and contributed talks.

Further details are on the conference web site:

The Impact of Current Economic, Institutional and Political Developments on Credit and Risk

Venice, Italy
1 – 2 October 2015

GRETA Associati (Venice, Italy), Center on Sustainable Architecture for Finance (SAFE) at Goethe University Frankfurt (Frankfurt, Germany), the University of Zurich (Zurich, Switzerland) and Intesa Sanpaolo (Milan, Italy) are co-sponsors of a Conference to be held in Venice on October 1-2, 2015. The objective of the Conference is to bring together academics, practitioners and PhD students working in the area of risk management. The conference will provide an opportunity for participants engaged in research at the forefront of this area to discuss both the causes and implications of recent events in financial markets and may, in turn, suggest fruitful directions for future research. The Conference, organised under the auspices of the Department of Economics of the University Ca’ Foscari of Venice, ABI – Italian Banking Association and European Investment Bank, is the fourteenth of a series dedicated to various aspects of credit risk.

The organizers encourage submissions of papers on any topic within the overall theme of the conference and in the following areas in particular:

  • Wealth inequality, firm financing and credit risk
    • Is local wealth inequality affecting the quality of institutions and the choice over market versus bank finance, and thereby determining corporate finance and credit risk outcomes?
  • Home ownership and credit risk
    • Are measures promoting home ownership or financial innovations responding to an increase in ownership demand, for example, resulting in more credit risk?
  • Collateral availability, credit and risk
    • Is the availability of collateral determining credit granting and credit risk?
  • Banking supervision and credit risk
    • Is the level and quality of bank supervision leading to an optimal level of credit risk?
    • What is the impact of the institutional organization of banking supervision on credit risk?
  • Central bank policies and credit risk
    • Are monetary conditions drivers of bank credit risk taking? Under all circumstances?

The Scientific Committee for the Conference consists of:
Steven Ongena, University of Zurich, Programme Chair
Mark Carey, Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System
Hans Degryse, KU Leuven
Jan Krahnen, Goethe University

ESA-announce Call for papers: 6th theem on “The Formation and Elicitation of Beliefs", April 23-25, 2015

Posted on 2014/12/18. Filed under: 綜合 |

6th Thurgau Experimental Economics Meeting (theem)

*The Formation and Elicitation of Beliefs*

April 23-25, 2015, in Kreuzlingen (CH)

Keynote speakers: Andrew Schotter and Martin Dufwenberg.

Beliefs are a crucial factor in game theory but we know rather little
about their role in the actual decision-making process. One reason for
this lack of knowledge is the difficulty to elicit beliefs accurately.
Moreover, beliefs are not static. New information and (additional)
deliberation can change them. For this workshop we invite experimental
and theoretical contributions that focus on the formation and impact of
beliefs in social interactions. We explicitly welcome methodological
studies on how to elicit beliefs in the laboratory.

Submission of paper/extended abstract on www.theem.ch: January 30, 2015
Notification of acceptance: February 23, 2015
Conference fee: CHF 200 (includes coffee breaks & conference dinner)

Please forward this call for papers to other researchers who might have
an interest in the topic. You find more information on www.theem.ch. For
any further question please contact us via info.

ESA-announce Call For Papers: Identity and Decision Making

Posted on 2014/12/13. Filed under: 綜合 |

Call for Papers

Interdisciplinary Conference on Personal Identity and Decision Making

May 1-2, 2015

Gleacher Center, University of Chicago Booth School of Business, Chicago, IL

Sponsored by the John Templeton Foundation

Submission deadline: February 1, 2015

You are invited to participate in an interdisciplinary conference on personal identity and decision making which will be held in Chicago on May 1-2, 2015 and is sponsored by the John Templeton Foundation.

The conference will involve some invited talks and some contributed talks, as well as a small contributed poster session. We expect to be able to offer travel awards to a limited number of student poster presenters courtesy of the Association for Consumer Research.

This is a conference about personal identity, and the role of identity in decision making. In particular, the topic of the future self and its relation to decisions over time has been discussed by theorists from many disciplines, with each discipline highlighting different aspects of the topic. The goal of this conference is to establish cross-disciplinary dialogue in hopes of reaching some general insights about identity and decision making.

The expected audience of this conference is highly multidisciplinary. The conference will feature open registration, but leading academics from the fields of philosophy, cognitive science, anthropology, economics, marketing, social psychology, and neuroscience will be invited to present. We hope that the discussions at this conference will produce cross-pollination of ideas across diverse fields, and enrich the thinking and research of conference participants.

Authors should submit a 750-word abstract, plus one graph (optional) via e-mail to PersonalIdentityConference by February 1, 2015. All abstracts must be submitted as Word documents. Applicants will be notified by February 16, 2015. Information about the conference can be found at the conference website: http://futureself.uchicago.edu.
