WEA 2016 International Conference, Singapore, 1/7-10, 2016
The WEA is experimenting with the new mode of an “International” conference (what used to be the Pacific Rim Conference) and a regular Annual Conference (in the U.S., in Honolulu this year).
A quick update on the 90th annual conference to be held at the Hilton Hawaiian Village in Waikiki, Honolulu, Hawaii (June 28 – July 2, 2015). I continue to revise the CEP sessions as people had to withdraw due to funding or personal issues. I have also added some late papers which I am able to accommodate due to these withdrawals.
Some of the withdrawals were due to the inability to find lodging at the conference hotel or nearby accommodations at similar price and quality. As I warn everyone in February the participation was extremely high this year, which reflects the popularity of the location and the fact that the US economy is recovering well. It turns out there was another major contributing factor, there was a international conference of the Lions Club, which, much like the AEA (i.e. ASSA), has a contract for city-wide hotel accommodations. This was certainly unfortunate and was not known to the WEA ahead of time.
I usually do not make a call for the international conference until after the end of the regular US conference; however, I have had quite a few inquiries and hence decided to send out this very preliminary informational e-mail.
I will organize CEP sessions for the 12th International Conference in Singapore, January 7 – 10, 2016. The conference will be jointly hosted with Nanyang Technological University. Acheduled keynote speakers include Peter Diamond (2010 Nobel Prize winner) and James Mirrlees (1996 Nobel Prize winner).
For those early risers or early birds, please refer to the attached call-for-papers, and send me your proposed paper complete with the information that I need.
Again, thanks for your support. And please pass this along to Friends/Colleagues that you think may be interested.
