ESA-announce 7th Amsterdam Symposium on Behavioral and Experimental Economics

The Amsterdam School of Economics of the University of Amsterdam is proud to host the 7th Amsterdam Symposium on Behavioral and Experimental Economics (ABEE). The meeting takes place on Friday and Saturday August 21-22 in Amsterdam.

The Faculty of Economics in Cambridge wishes to appoint a full time Research Associate from September 2015 to work on a project entitled "UbiquityLab: A platform for large scale online experiments with real-time interactions among participants" directed by Dr. Edoardo Gallo (

The successful candidate will work on the development of UbiquityLab: a novel platform to conduct large-scale online experiments with real-time interactions among participants. For an example of a recent publication that gives more information about UbiquityLab, see

The role holder would possess specialist knowledge in programming and techniques to work with large datasets within established research programmes. Strong programming skills in Python and JavaScript are essential, and experience of web programming is preferable. Econometric skills, including experience in data pre-processing and working with large datasets, are highly desirable. The successful candidate will manage their own workload, continually update knowledge in Computer Science and engage in continuous professional development. There is a preference for candidates who have a strong background in Computer Science. Candidates with and without a Ph.D. will be considered if they have relevant experience.

This is a fixed-term appointment for one year from 1st September 2015 or as soon as possible thereafter. The salary will be at Research Associate Grade 7 starting at £28,695 to £37,394 on the University scale, depending on experience of the appointed candidate.

ESA-announce Reminder: Call for Papers – Birmingham Ph.D Decision Making Workshop (2015)

Reminder: Call for Papers – Please note the deadline is this Friday 17th July 2015

This is a call for papers for the Birmingham Ph.D Decision Making Workshop (2015) which will take place at the University of Birmingham (UK) on Thursday 8th and Friday 9th October 2015.

This two day workshop seeks to bring together Ph.D students using experimental methods to better understand human decision making processes and their potential policy impact. The conference will feature a number of keynote presentations by distinguished academics and a plenary panel discussion featuring both academics and non-academics focusing on how such research can inform and influence policy. As such, it should be of interest to Ph.D students studying experimental/behavioural economics, psychology and neuroscience.

We welcome submissions from Ph.D students in any field, in particular economics, psychology and neuroscience, using experimental methodology to study human decision making processes. The deadline for application is Friday 17th July 2015.

Postdoc Position: Experimental Economics and Environmental Economics (Department of Economics, University of Kassel, Germany)

The Institute of Economics at the University of Kassel, Germany, is seeking to fill a 5-year postdoc position starting as soon as possible.

We invite applications from qualified candidates with a PhD in economics as well as a background and interest in experimental economics, behavioral economics, and environmental economics. The postdoc researcher will have the opportunity to conduct collaborative and independent research.

The job comes with a teaching obligation of one course per semester. Teaching may be done in English or German. This is a fixed term-position of 3 years with the possibility of extending the contract for a further 2 years.

Call for papers – Applied Financial Modelling

Attached please find a call for papers for a two-day conference on applied financial modelling to be held in Melbourne – Australia from February 4 to 5, 2016.

All papers proposed for conference presentation should be submitted electronically to: paresh.narayan2014 . Extended abstracts of maximum 500 words are due by 30 August 2015 and draft papers are due by 1 October 2015. Final decision on paper acceptance will be conveyed to corresponding authors by 1 November 2015.

The best papers presented at the conferences will be invited for formal submission and consideration for publication in one of the three journals (Economic Modelling, Journal of International Financial Markets Institutions & Money and Studies in Economics and Finance).

今(2015)年初以來世界各地極端氣候災害事件頻傳,主要國際氣象機構對正穩定增強的聖嬰現象(El Niño)皆感到憂心並提出示警,預測今年將有高達90%的機率發生聖嬰現象,美國國家海洋與大氣管理局(NOAA)的研究更指出去(2014)年是全球有氣溫紀錄135年以來最熱的一年,而今年5月均溫亦創下有史以來新高,預期將會再次打破去年最熱紀錄。


氣候變遷與聖嬰現象除將造成農作物產量下滑引發國際大宗物資價格波動,也將反映在進口國國內短期的物價壓力上。台灣由於自然資源缺乏,加上地理環境限制,每年均需進口大宗重要農產物資,這些產品國際市場價格動向,不僅攸關國內廠商經營成本,更影響著未來民生消費物價走勢。另一方面,今夏以來台灣各地夏季炎熱,連日高溫屢創紀錄,氣候變遷與聖嬰現象造成的乾旱、暴雨等極端天氣,未來台灣氣候型態為何?同樣值得國人關心。為此,台灣綜合研究院「財經諮詢委員會」、「財團法人現代財經基金會」與「財團法人費景漢先生紀念文教基金會」,於民國104年7月29日 (星期三)下午2時,假台灣省商業會(台北市中山區104松江路168號13樓)舉辦「氣候變遷下的大宗物資行情波動」產官學研討會,邀請學者專家共同探討。
