ESA-announce 23rd Visiting Graduate Student Workshop in Experimental Economics

This coming January, the International Foundation of Research in Experimental Economics (IFREE) will sponsor its 23rd Visiting Graduate Student Workshop in Experimental Economics at Chapman University in Orange, CA. The seminar will open with a reception on the evening of Tuesday, January 9 and run through Saturday, January 13, 2017.

The purpose of the workshop in economics for PhD students is to introduce and explore the laboratory method of inquiry. The workshop is free to all participants, but students must provide their own transportation to and from the workshop. Application procedures can be found at: All applications and letters of recommendation received by September 29, 2017 (5:00 PDT) will be considered. Since this is a competitive program and space is quite limited, we carefully read the responses to the essay prompts in the application. We also ask that each faculty member recommend only one student.

Participants must be able to stay for the duration of the workshop, arriving in time for the opening reception at 6:30 p.m. on January 9. Sunday, January 14 is a day for travel. Local housing arrangements are covered by a generous grant from IFREE. Each day students will participate in experiments for cash. Thus, as part of their learning experience, participants must earn money to help recover their travel expenses. (Please note that all international students must receive approval from their university’s international student office in order to receive payments. If the student is not approved, we will be unable to pay the student earnings from the experiments.)

Please forward this announcement to any interested faculty or students. Thank you for your interest and recommendation of students.

Best regards,
Abel Winn
