ESA-announce Reminder and Deadline Extension: CFP Experiments in Economics, Experiments in Philosophy

Posted on 2011/04/03. Filed under: 經濟, 綜合, 實驗 | 標籤:, , , |

Experiments in Economics, Experiments in Philosophy
San Sebastian, July 27-29 (2011)

XIV Summer school on Economics and Philosophy. Organized by the University of the Basque Country and the Urrutia Elejalde Foundation.
Coordinators: Cristina Bicchieri (UPenn), Jason Dana (UPenn), María Jiménez Buedo (UNED)
Convenor: Alfonso Dubois (UPV/EHU)
http://www.urrutiaelejalde.org/SummerSchool/2011.html

1. Aims and scope

Since 1998 the Urrutia Elejalde Foundation has annually organized a Summer School on frontier topics between philosophy and economics and other social sciences, bringing together scholars from all these fields to explore them. The aim of this year Summer School is to explore the potential avenues for collaboration between the growing disciplines of experimental economics and experimental philosophy.
Experimental economics has evolved into a thriving subfield, as attested by the number of experimental papers published in leading
general economics journals. This growing enthusiasm for experiments in economics has coincided with the revival of philosophical and methodological analyses of causality, which view the controlled experiment as the privileged gate to causal inference. But more
importantly, in the last years, a new field known as experimental philosophy has set out to complement or even substitute for pre-
theoretical intuitions regarding philosophical themes such as moral dilemmas or rationality. At a moment in which experimental economics is already well-established and experimental philosophy is emerging, this meeting compares their main themes and results.

2. Preliminary list of speakers

Nicholas BARDSLEY (University of Reading), Giorgio CORICELLI (CNRS, Institut des Sciences Cognitives, Lyon), Francesco GUALA (Univ. di Milano),Nagore IRIBERRI (U. Pompeu Fabra), Joshua KNOBE (Yale University), Shaun NICHOLS (U. Arizona), Daniel ZIZZO (University of East Anglia), Cristina BICCHIERI (UPenn), Jason DANA (UPenn),

3. Call for papers
We encourage submission of papers that cover one or more of the above areas. The scientific committee will consider a number of submissions by young scholars at graduate or postgraduate level. The Foundation will cover the registration fees and accommodation expenses of the authors. Please send a pdf abstract of no more than 500 words to philandecon esa-announce@gmail.com by April 7th. A decision will be made by April 15th.

4.Registration
The School also considers applications from those wishing to attend without presenting a paper. The registration period opens up at a
later date, by which those who have expressed interest in only attending will be notified. Places are limited and preference is given
to presenters.

CFP: Information Systems and Software Engineering

Posted on 2011/01/12. Filed under: 綜合 | 標籤:, , , |

As you know, Murray Gell-Mann, who received the Nobel Prize in physics in 1969, affirms that: “it is vitally important that we supplement our specialized studies with serious attempts to take a crude look at the whole."

In the context of Information Systems (IS), specialized studies, practice, and research in Software Engineering might be of vital importance in taking a look at the whole IS field, and vice versa.

Accordingly, one of the main purposes of organizing The International Symposium on Information Systems and Software Engineering: ISSE 2011 (www.2011iiisconferences.org/isse) is to provide a forum to suplement specialized studies and research in software engineering, and in specific areas of Information Systems, “with serious attempts to take a look at the whole" by means of potential interdisciplinary communication in a multi-disciplinary forum.

Consequently, submissions and contributions to ISSE 2011 can be made in the context of 1) specific specialized disciplinary areas, 2) multi-disciplinary projects and methodologies, 3) inter-disciplinary thinking and acting, and 4) crude looks at the whole that includes Software Engineering, Information Systems, Soft-Systems Engineering, and Informing Science/Engineering.

ISSE 2011 is being organized in the context of The 2nd International Conference on Engineering and Meta-Engineering: ICEME 2011 (www.2011iiisconferences.org/iceme) to be held on March 27th – 30th, 2011 in Orlando, Florida, USA, and collocated with The 2nd International Multi-Conference on Complexity, Informatics and Cybernetics: IMCIC 2011 (www.2011iiisconferences.org/imcic)

The deadlines are the following (Check the web site for possible extensions or new set of deadlines):

Papers/Abstracts Submission and Invited Session Proposals: Jan 14th, 2011
Authors Notifications: Feb 7th, 2011
Camera-ready, full papers: Feb 22nd, 2011

Submissions for Face-to-Face or for Virtual Participation are both accepted. Both kinds of submissions will have the same two-tier reviewing process: non-blind and double-blind reviewing. Accepted papers will be included in the same (printed and CD versions of the) proceedings.

A best paper will be selected for each session, and the best 20% of the papers presented at the symposium will also be published in the Journal of Systemics, Cybernetics, and Informatics

Registration fees will be waived for *effective* invited session organizers.

Details regarding the double-tier reviewing process, acceptance policy, selections of keynote speakers, best papers, and their publication in the Journal of Systemic, Cybernetics, and Informatics, can be found at the symposium web site, and resumed in the page titled “About the Symposium"

Best regards,

ISSE 2011 Organizing Committee
