Announcement and Call for Papers

The Association for Public Economic Theory (APET) is pleased to announce that it will hold its thirteenth international meeting at the Academia Sinica in Taipei, Taiwan from June 12 through June 14, 2012. A welcoming reception will be held on the evening of June 11th. As with previous PET conferences, papers in all aspects of public economics and related areas will be presented. Our keynote speakers will be:

*Eric Maskin (Institute of Advanced Study)

Special Announcement:

APET Workshop on Public-Private Partnerships
25th and 26th June 2012

The Association for Public Economic Theory and The School of Economics at theUniversity of Queensland are proud to sponsor a special APET workshop on public-private partnerships. Confirmed keynote speakers include Eduardo Engle (Yale University) and David Martimort (Paris School of Economics).

The workshop will be held on the 25th and 26th of June 2012 at the Tangalooma Island Resort, in Brisbane’s Moreton Bay, Australia. (www.tangalooma.com)

We invite theoretical contributions on the study of public-private partnerships. Topics include, but are not restricted to:

*Tender design
*Bundling of construction and operation
*Optimal allocation of risk
*Contract design
*Effects of renegotiation
*Incentives to innovate

A selection of the papers presented will be included in a special issue of the Journal of Public Economic Theory to be edited by David Martimort and Flavio Menezes. Papers for the special issue must pass the normal review process for the Journal.

ESA-announce Call for applications: RUBEN/CEAR workshop on the behavioural econometrics of risk, uncertainty and time preference

The Research Unit in Behavioural Economics and Neuroeconomics (RUBEN) and the Center for the Economic Analysis of Risk (CEAR) are presenting a 5-day workshop at the University of Cape Town, South Africa, in January 2012. The workshop focusses on the behavioural econometrics of risk, uncertainty and time preference and will be led by Prof. Glenn Harrison. The training is intended for an interdisciplinary participant group and applications are welcomed from all individuals who study risk, uncertainty or time preference. Applicants must be registered postgraduate students, post-doctoral fellows or faculty members at African academic or research institutions. The deadline for applications is 15 July 2011. Please pass this on to anyone who may be interested.

GRETA Associati (Venice, Italy) and Intesa Sanpaolo (Milan, Italy) are co-sponsors of a Conference to be held in Venice on September 29-30, 2011. The objective of the Conference is to bring together academics, practitioners and PhD students working in the area of risk management. The conference will provide an opportunity for participants engaged in research at the forefront of this area to discuss both the causes and implications of recent events in financial markets and may, in turn, suggest fruitful directions for future research. The Conference, organised under the auspices of the Department of Economics of the University Ca Foscari of Venice, ABI – Italian Banking Association and the European Investment Bank is the tenth of a series dedicated to various aspects of credit risk.

The organizers encourage submissions of papers on any topic within the overall theme of the conference and in the following areas in particular:

  • Systemic risk: How to measure it, how to limit it;
  • Banking and insurance: Capital requirements and risk management after the crisis;
  • Financial information: the role of ratings agencies, Pillar 3 (Basel III and Solvency II), stress testing.

Registration fees are:

For participants presenting a paper there are no fees.

“Measuring and Predicting Risk from Financial High-Frequency Data"

The conference aims to shed new light on the uses of high frequency financial data in improved risk measurement, management, and asset pricing, including ways in which to distill large intraday data bases into manageable information structures. Examples of studies that fall within the scope of the conference include, but are not limited to: realized volatility measures and their uses in characterizing the dynamic dependencies in asset returns; multivariate volatility measures and risk measurements; quantile and VaR predictions and extreme value extrapolations; high-frequency Monte Carlo and historical simulation techniques; risk and volatility model evaluation procedures.
