Organisation

The Department of Economics, Econometrics & Finance is an active and international research group, consisting of approximately 60 people. Members are working both in fundamental theoretical research as well as in applied research. Central research themes are among others (applied) econometrics, banking, aging and pensions, microfinance, behavioral and experimental economics and industrial organisation. Approximately 20% of the department members is non-Dutch, support staff is used to communicating in English. More than 80% of the PhD students are non-Dutch. Members of the department have published in a wide range of top journals, such as American Economic Review, Economic Journal, Journal of Business and Economics Statistics, Journal of Econometrics, Journal of Financial Economics, Macroeconomic Dynamics, RAND Journal of Economics, Review of Economics and Statistics, and Review of Financial Studies.

The department is responsible for central courses in two bachelor programs: the independent BSc program in Econometrics and Operations Research, and the Economics and Business Economics BSc program. These are all taught in English. In addition, the department is directly involved in the MSc program in Economics, the program in Finance and the program in Econometrics, Operations Research and Actuarial Science. The department also participates in the selective honours program for BSc students, and the challenging 2-years research master program, which is intended for students aiming at a PhD.

Job description

Currently the department has three vacant tenure track positions:
• one position in monetary macroeconomics (preferably with strong quantitative skills; expertise in stochastic general equilibrium models and numerical implementation methods; econometric orientation)
• one position in microeconomics (the candidate has excellent research skills in one of the following fields: experimental and behavioral economics or applied industrial organization; preference will be given to applicants with experience in conducting lab or field experiments and/or in analyzing field data using modern microeconometric techniques)
• one position in finance (preferably specialization in corporate finance and/ or asset pricing, but we also invite qualified researchers interested in closely related areas, like corporate governance, international finance, banking and finance, and finance and development to apply).

Candidates are expected to strengthen the position of the Department of Economics, Econometrics & Finance. The department offers a dynamic academic environment with excellent research facilities.

Candidates have the ability to conduct high quality, original research and to publish in high-ranked international journals. Time for research is allocated according to standardized faculty procedures, which guarantee 50% time for research during the tenure track period. Responsibilities include teaching in the bachelor and master programs offered by the department.

He/she has a track record of outstanding academic research and teaching, and is internationally recognized. As to teaching, he/she contributes to the courses in the BSc and MSc programs, including the supervision of bachelor’s and master’s theses. Moreover, he/she might contribute to the two-year highly selective research master program. He/she is internationally recognized, with the potential to publish in leading journals. He/she is also able to provide leadership, motivation and supervision and has management qualities.

We will interview at the ASSA meeting in San Fransisco (2-4 January 2016).

Qualifications

To qualify candidates should have:

· PhD in Finance, Economics, Econometrics, or Quantitative Economics

· expertise in the field of macroeconomics/microeconomics/finance, demonstrated by evidence of the ability (or the potential) to publish in the top-tier or very good international academic peer-reviewed journals

· proven interest and ability in developing courses and teaching at the undergraduate and graduate level and in mentoring students

· international network

· organizational qualities and excellent communication skills

· the potential to generate external funding for research projects.

Tenure track positions at the Faculty of Economics and Business are temporary positions subject to a tenure decision after the period of six years. Formal tenure track requirements include criteria with respect to research prominence, teaching and external funds raising activities. During the tenure track period, 50% of the position is reserved for research and 50% is devoted to teaching activities.

Conditions of employment

The University of Groningen offers a salary depending on qualifications and work experience starting from a minimum of € 3,324 gross per month (salary scale 11) to a maximum of € 5,171 gross per month (salary scale 12 Dutch Universities) for a full time position, excluding 8% holiday allowance and 8.3% end-of-year bonus and participation in a pension scheme for employees.

Candidates will be appointed for a period of six years, on condition of a positive mid-term evaluation in the third year of employment. On the basis of a positive final evaluation in the sixth year of employment, candidates will be granted tenure.

We expect candidates to start by August 2016.

Job Description
The Department of Resource Economics invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professor with an applied econometrics and/or experimental research focus in managerial economics or industrial organization. Under exceptional circumstances, highly qualified candidates at other ranks may receive consideration. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to teaching in our growing Managerial Economics track at the undergraduate level. Teaching responsibilities may also include graduate and undergraduate courses in industrial organization, experimental economics, and/or quantitative methods/applied econometrics.

Requirements
Applicants are required to have a Ph.D. in industrial organization, managerial/agricultural/ resource/applied economics, economics, or a related field as of September 1, 2016.

The Department of Resource Economics has 14 faculty, 300 undergraduate majors, and about 20 graduate students (one-half are Ph.D. candidates). We place special emphases on faculty-student interaction and cooperation among faculty. We share a fundamental commitment to teach and attract a diverse student body.
