ESA-announce Tenure track positions at NYU Abu Dhabi

Dear colleagues,

I would likely to bring to your attention that NYU in Abu Dhabi is looking to fill several tenure-track positions in economics and political science.

Although the ad does not specify a particular field, experimental economics is the field in the Social Science division with the comparative advantage. (At present, we have 10 experimental economists and political scientists in Abu Dhabi. We have two dedicated research labs with a total capacity of 45 computers. And of course the location is ideal for colleagues interested in ‘exotic’ subject pools.)

As the number of faculty members is projected to grow substantially over the next decade, we hope to build on our strengths and are thus always looking for good experimental, behavioral or micro economists to join us. Both junior and senior candidates are encouraged to apply.

The twelfth INEM conference will be hosted by the Research Unit in Behavioural Economics and Neuroeconomics (RUBEN) in the School of Economics at the University of Cape Town.

Call for papers Proposals for contributed papers as well as symposia (of three papers each) are welcome in all areas of philosophy of economics and economic methodology, including ethical aspects of economics and the foundations of rational choice theory. Submissions that focus on methodological and philosophical issues related to poverty, inequality and development are particularly welcome. We especially encourage submissions from graduate students and members of underrepresented groups. Graduate students whose abstracts are accepted for inclusion in the programme will have travel and accommodation (in on-campus residences) expenses, other than airfare, covered by INEM.

Abstract submission Please submit an abstract (300-500 words) on the online abstract submission form at the following link: http://www.inem2015.co.za/. Be sure to indicate whether you are a graduate student. To facilitate efforts by accepted contributors to secure institutional funding, acceptances will be communicated on a rolling basis within one month of submission. However, no submissions will be considered after September 10, 2015.

Symposia proposal submission Please submit a description of a symposium (1,500-2,000 words) to Belinda.chapman . The description should contain both a clear explanation of the topic as well as three short (200-300 words) abstracts of the papers. Please prepare the description for anonymous review and submit it as an attachment (*.pdf). Please include the contact details of the symposium chair and all authors (name, affiliation, email address) in the email. The deadline for submissions is 30 June, 2015. Acceptance will be communicated by 31 July, 2015.

Traveling to Cape Town Cape Town is a long trip for most, but good airfare deals are available on various airlines if booked well in advance. ESA-announce tenure track position in Exp Econ at Nankai University (Tianjin, China)

I would like to bring you attention to a new listing for a tenure track position at Nankai University in Tianjin. China. I am helping them get a new experimental economics program started at their Institute of State Economy. They just completed building a new lab, and they have the resources and commitment to develop an excellent exp econ program. This year they hiring one new faculty member, but plan to continue a series of new hires over the next 2-3 years. This is a great opportunity for someone interested in developing an experimental econ research agenda in China.

We are pleased to announce the 8th Annual NYU-CESS (New York University-Center for Experimental Social Science) Conference on Experimental Political Science, which will be held on Friday, March 6th and Saturday, March 7th, 2015. The Conference is an annual event that brings together scholars interested in experimental methodology in political science, broadly construed. We welcome the participation of field researchers and lab researchers, political psychologists and political economists, methodologists who explore the relationship between experimental methods and observational data, as well as interested others who may simply wish to learn about and discuss experimental methods.

We are now accepting paper proposals, as well as proposals for a graduate student poster session. Proposals can be submitted online via the following link:

異、甚或糧食安全與糧食自給率之辯證,在在影響臺灣農業的存廢興衰及經營型
態。尤其是又同時面臨內外部種種因素的變化,包括農民高齡化、農企業興起、
農地利用等內部因素,以及貿易自由化趨勢、氣候變遷、科技日新月異等外部因
素,致使當前的農業部門較傳統農業面臨更多的挑戰與機會。
農業經濟的研究之所以成為獨立學門,在於農業經濟的特質不能純以經濟效
率看待,亦不能任由市場機制決定資源配置,其間需要政府提出諸多農業政策以
協助 輔導 補助等措施來扶植農業生產或研發推廣 甚或在不同經濟發展階段,
農業亦被賦予支持工業部門發展,需由政府以課稅、強制方式轉移農業資本。由
於政策對於農業發展方向與興衰之影響,始終居於關鍵地位,故大部分的農業經
濟研究亦直接或間接與農業政策有關。

近 20 年來 學者們投入在數量方法或理論模型的推導及實證 並發表在 SCI
、SSCI 或 TSSCI 期刊已蔚為風潮,雖有助於個人學術聲望提升及研究升等,但實
際上這些研究成果對於農業發展或決策參考的價值,卻引發諸多反思之議論。即
使美國農經學會也沒有只將《美國農業經濟期刊》(American Journal of
Agricultural Economics, AJAE)定於一尊,而仍同時對社會大眾發行《應用經濟前
瞻與政策》(Applied Economic Perspectives and Policy, AEPP)以及《選擇》雜誌
(Choices Magazine),以善盡學者淑世易俗之社會責任。

長期以來,臺灣農村經濟學會致力於提升學術研究,早在 1994 年 12 月起即
發行《農業經濟叢刊》,並深獲學界高度肯定;不過,為擴大社會大眾對農業政
策之關心,本屆理監事會議決議通過另外發行《農業政策評論》電子期刊,以有
別於數理模型文章之刊載。即日起開始徵稿,敬祈各界先進提供對農業發展與農
業政策之卓見或評論文章,以增進本期刊之內容品質與政策影響力。
